Xiaomi SU7 Ultra to get update in China with a massive rear wing (2026)

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is set to receive a significant update in China, featuring a massive rear wing that promises to challenge the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT's lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. This development comes as no surprise, given Xiaomi's ambition to boost its brand reputation and sales performance. The updated model, recently spotted in China, showcases a host of exterior enhancements, including carbon fiber side-view mirrors, a LiDAR sensor on the roof, and more sensors in the front fenders. However, the most striking feature is the wide rear wing, which is even larger than the one on the prototype that set a lap record. This design not only adds aesthetic appeal but also generates more downforce, enabling the rear wheels to grip the track at high speeds. The SU7 Ultra's endplates are also unusually wide, contributing to its overall aggressive and performance-oriented look, reminiscent of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Xiaomi's strategy appears to be twofold. Firstly, the company aims to elevate its brand image by introducing a high-performance variant of the SU7 Ultra. This move could potentially attract new customers and solidify Xiaomi's position in the competitive automotive market. Secondly, the update is expected to boost sales, addressing the recent decline in sales figures. In April 2026, Xiaomi delivered only 64 units of the SU7 Ultra, a stark contrast to the peak sales of 3,101 units in March 2025. The ongoing Xiaomi SU7, priced at 529,900 yuan (78,255 USD), is a four-door sedan with impressive specifications, including a 3,000 mm wheelbase and three electric motors generating up to 1,138 kW (1,526 hp). The SU7 Ultra accelerates to 100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds and boasts a range of 630 km under CLTC conditions, thanks to its 93.7 kWh battery pack.

However, the SU7 Ultra faces a formidable competitor in the Denza Z performance coupe, which is set to offer up to 1,180 kW (1,582 hp) and a maximum speed of 350 km/h. Weighing 140 kg less than the SU7 Ultra, the Denza Z is expected to excel in cornering at higher speeds. This development highlights the intense competition in the electric vehicle market and the ongoing race to offer the most powerful and technologically advanced models. As Xiaomi prepares to unveil the updated SU7 Ultra, the automotive world eagerly awaits the performance benchmarks and sales figures that will shape the future of this high-performance sedan.
